It was indeed an honor to be officially enshrined into the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame Sunday June 27, 2010, culminating 3 days of special activities in Tampa, Florida at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

I had a tremendous time reuniting with some very special people who were and are a great part of who I have become. Florida has a long and rich boxing history from greats and even The Greatest, Muhammad Ali, who trained at the famed 5th Street Gym in my hometown of Miami Florida, to the tremendous boxing history that Tampa shares with the Magic City.

Florida along with New York, California, and Las Vegas, have been and are the real Champions for the sport of Boxing. As the young lad who walked up the rickety steps of that 5th Street Gym to the young man who would end up training there for my brief professional boxing career, those memories shaped and molded not only my current career hosting America’s only syndicated boxing show IN THIS CORNER, but they have also helped shape and ground my life as the person I am today.

I thank God, my family, and the Florida Boxing Hall of Fame and all it’s members for a truly special weekend and day for Smitty.
