Written by Smitty This weekend we get a look at Kelly Pavlik 35-1 (31 KO’s) who will be back inside the squared circle defending his Middleweight Crown against Miguel Angel Espino 20-2-1 (9 KO’s) in Kelly’s hometown of Youngstown, Ohio. This appears to be a real nice Xmas gift for Kelly and his neighborhood fans. I don’t know anything about Espino except this, he hasn’t fought anyone of note and obviously can’t punch given the lack of knockouts on his resume. Kelly is coming off the serious hand problems, so this may be just what his doctor ordered, a piece of cake for the holidays. That’s OK for a year ender that saw Kelly only fight once since he lost in lopsided fashion to Bernard Hopkins in October of 2008. We should get word real soon on where Floyd and Manny will do battle, presumably March 13. You know where I want it to be, right here in my backyard with our friends at the MGM Grand. Vegas knows how to do the big fights better than any place on this planet, and this one is the biggest of all fights to come around in a long time. Poetic Justice for Paulie Malignaggi with the rematch win over Juan Diaz. Very good fight with Timothy Bradley defeating a game but out fisted Lamont Peterson, and thumbs down for the horrible Vitali Klitschko vs Kevin Johnson snoozefest. Vitali is big and always fit, and has some skills, but he is totally a safety first fighter, which is why he has zero fan appeal here in this country. His little brother Wlad is much about the same, but with a better punch and more athleticism, however, a more questionable chin. Hey how about we find a great America Heavyweight some damn where in 2010! That would be nice. Hands up and Chin down. |
